High magnetic fields are an extremely powerful tool to investigate, to control and to manipulate the quantum properties of matter. In this talk I will present some recent results on the electronic properties of 2D materials (transition metal dichalcogenides MoS2 and WS2) which can be accessed by the combination of high magnetic and electric fields. In particular, I will show how you can transform an electrically insulation material into a superconductor with zero resistance and how this superconductivity surprisingly survives the high magnetic field of HFML.

On the first Thursday of the lustrum we will make a trip to a different location: starting at 19:00 all of you are welcome at Next Level, to make good use of a real karaoke set where you can showcase your singing skills! Beer prices are quite generous at €1,50, so you have no excuse not to come to the city centre and enjoy this evening.

Dit gaat de grootste en spectaculairste activiteit van het lustrum zijn. Om 4 uur begint het rustig aan met de mogelijkheid tot speeddaten tussen studenten en alumni. Zo kunnen alumni ontdekken hoe de studie er nu uit ziet en wat Marie nog allemaal organiseert en kun je als student ontdekken wat het leven na je studie te bieden heeft. Daarna zal het festival echt losbarsten met verschillende optredens, rondleidingen over de afdelingen, interessante sprekers die gaan vertellen over natuurkunde en een food court! Dit wil je absoluut niet missen. Er is genoeg tijd om alles te bekijken, want het Huygens blijft speciaal voor ons open tot 1 uur s nachts!
