Vandaag was het tijd om de stad Montreal voor een dagje te verlaten en de natuur op te zoeken. We verzamelden met de 14 mensen die meegingen om 10:00 voor het hostel, maar eerst gingen Pieter en ik even langs de supermarkt en de bakker om eten in te slaan voor de hike. Na het haasten voor de metro en daarna de bus waren we eindelijk aangekomen in het plaatsje Mont-Saint-Hilaire. Hier was de start van de route die Joep had uitgezocht door het natuurpark ``Gault Nature Reserve of McGill Universit''.

De tocht begon met een enorme klim, waardoor ik toch even bang was dat ik het niet ging overleven, maar gelukkig was dat het zwaarste stuk van de wandeling. Onderweg kwamen we chipmunks tegen (foto credits naar Sarah) en een vismarter die helaas wel te snel was voor een foto. Toen we aankwamen bij het meer ``Lac Herte'' was het tijd om de sandwich uit de supermarkt te gaan proberen. Dit was helaas een enorme tegenvaller, maar gelukkig had ik ook nog koekjes mee. Verder hebben we bij het meer even uitgerust en van het uitzicht genoten. Toen gingen we opsplitsen, want sommigen wilden nog wat verder lopen naar een uitkijkpunt. Ik ging mee met de groep die de kortere weg nam terug naar de bushalte, om daar nog even op zoek te gaan naar een welverdiende koffie. Daarna waren we weer herenigd met de rest bij de bushalte en zijn we teruggegaan naar de stad.

In de bus hebben Sjoerd en ik meteen even het instituut bezoek van morgen voorbereid met vragen en toen we terug waren was het tijd voor avondeten. We zijn met 16 mensen gaan eten in Le Central, een foodcourt, waar ik een lekkere poke bowl heb genuttigd. Tijdens het eten hebben we natuulijk even de belangrijke ijshockeywedstrijd gekeken van de Montreal Canadiens tegen Tampa Bay Lightning, deze hebben we in het hostel nog afgekeken en gelukkig heeft Montreal gewonnen! Toen was het tijd om te douchen en deze blog te schrijven. Al met al was het weer een top dag, maar helaas wel een van de laatste.

Today it was time to leave the city of Montreal for a day and head into nature. The 14 of us who were joining gathered in front of the hostel at 10:00, but first Pieter and I stopped by the supermarket and the bakery to buy some food for the hike. After rushing to catch the metro and then the bus, we finally arrived in the town of Mont-Saint-Hilaire. This was the starting point of the route that Joep had planned through the ``Gault Nature Reserve of McGill Universit'' nature park.

The hike started with a huge climb, which honestly made me worry for a moment that I wasn't going to survive it, but luckily that turned out to be the hardest part of the walk. Along the way we came across chipmunks (photo credits to Sarah) and a fisher cat, which unfortunately moved too fast for a picture. When we arrived at the lake ``Lac Hertel,'' it was time to try the supermarket sandwiches. Unfortunately, they were a huge disappointment, but luckily I also brought cookies. We also took some time to rest by the lake and enjoy the view.After that, we split up because some people wanted to continue hiking to a viewpoint. I joined the group that took the shorter route back to the bus stop so we could look for a well-deserved coffee. Afterwards, we reunited with the rest of the group at the bus stop and headed back to the city.

On the bus, Sjoerd and I immediately started preparing tomorrow's institute visit by coming up with some questions, and once we got back it was time for dinner. With a group of 16 people, we went to eat at Le Central, a food court, where I enjoyed a delicious poke bowl. During dinner, we of course watched the important ice hockey game between the Montreal Canadiens and the Tampa Bay Lightnings. We finished watching it back at the hostel, and luckily Montreal won! After that, it was time to shower and write this blog. All in all, it was another great day, although unfortunately one of the last.
